The Climate Change simulator En-ROADS was introduced to the Earth Café in a workshop by Tom Broughton on 24 October 2024.
Tom introduced himself as someone who has been campaigning on the issue of Climate Change for nearly 40 years and said that the En-ROADS simulator, a web-based tool, was the best one that he has found that brought together the various potential, and actual impacts, of Climate Change and what global policies could do to reduce these impacts. Tom spoke of how he took part in a month long training course of how to use the simulator and conduct workshops.
Together the attendees at the workshop went through the various policies that are modelled by En-ROADS and saw how if these policies were enacted, how it was possible to limit the temperature rise by 2100 to below 1.4C, and reduce the impact of sea level rise in the local area.

The En-ROADS simulator is available here: https://en-roads.climateinteractive.org/scenario.html?v=25.10.0
And the conclusion of the workshop can be viewed by clicking here. Please adjust the controls on this model (you won’t affect the original) to see how changing them affect the eventual temperature rise by 2100 and change the impacts – there are many to observe by clicking on the grey bars below the menu bar.
