The Chichester Climate Change Group is a new group under the umbrella of Transition Chichester. It was formed out of the Chichester u3a Climate Change Group (CCG), established in mid 2022 to provide a forum for discussion and learning on climate change from global down to local level. U3a meetings are for u3a members and the CCG debates and presentations were increasingly focusing on outreach to the public young and old and liaising with the councils on the broad area of climate change adaptation. It was therefore decided at the end of 2023 to establish a shadow group outside u3a, which would be free to include the general public of all ages and the councils and other organisations in our meetings. In early February it was agreed with the leadership of Transition Chichester that it would be to our mutual advantage that the new group would be hosted by Transition Chichester.
Whilst the u3a CCG continues with its internal “Forum for discussion” on all aspects of climate change from global to local, the new group is very much focused on Climate Change Adaptation in the Chichester District.
Our first public meeting was on Feb 7th and focused on Flooding and Adaptation in the parishes surrounding Chichester. More meetings are planned and we are working on the preparation of projects to address the adaptation challenge. A few of us meet informally on Friday mornings at Friends Meeting Rooms on Priory Rd. between 11.00 and 13.00 hrs. Please come along if you are interested in joining/helping us, or get in touch through cccg@transitionchichester.org
